Making art while thinking about your life can bring about a shift from deep inside.

About Art Therapy

Art Therapy is a type of psychotherapy.

Art therapy is used to treat a broad range of concerns from trauma to anxiety, addiction, OCD and emotional overwhelm. It helps boost resilience, self regulation, confidence and social skills.

Art therapy opens the door to the unconscious. It inspires, it soothes, it promotes growth.

All art materials are provided as Andrea works with clients to identify and process emotions.

Art makes psychotherapy playful and tactile, it tells without talking.

Child and Family Therapy

Nurture and nourish

Why might a child need therapy?

There are plenty of reasons why parents seek therapy for their children including but not limited to: anxiety; ASD; giftedness; impulse control issues; divorce; social challenges; identity; eating disorders; loss of a loved one; OCD; out of home care and all that comes with that; etc.

Art therapy is a natural way to offer a child therapy.  Finding words to express feelings can be difficult but art comes naturally and takes the spotlight off the child. Art therapy gives children a safe space to think about and process their feelings in a supportive relationship with Andrea who has worked with children since 2001.

Art makes it easy for children to tell without talking. Some things (like anxiety) don't really have words, so art therapy is a wonderful way to help children through places they aren't readily growing by themselves.

Andrea has developed safe open ways of engaging children. This oftentimes will include parent/s or carers being welcome in sessions as this can lift the whole family and help the child feel at ease.

Team Building or Staff Training

Think Outside the Box

Soft skills are everything. They are what differentiate us from AI.

Offering your team an art therapy experience will build soft skills.

How do you know when a team is functioning with cohesion? Work gets done and it feels easy! Staff look forward to work and the vibe is good. Miss understandings are easily clarified and respect has deep roots in trust.

Does that sound like your team? If not

Andrea can help. She's an expert in group dynamics, building communities of practice and bringing a fresh perspective that your team can leverage to improve staff relationships and retention.

The benefits of staff development days utilizing art therapy:

  • more flexibility

  • empathy and respect

  • creative thinking

  • open communication

  • conflict resolution

  • more trust

  • a good laugh

Lets face it - not many of us are artists but if your team dares to risk art making together, the rewards will be immediate.

We are social beings

Social connectedness is core to our humanity.

Art therapy is great in groups because together we can  inspire each other and we can see parts of ourselves in the art of others. This builds a sense of belonging and community.

Andrea has run art therapy in all sorts of groups since 2003:

  • aged care

  • prison

  • schools and preschools

  • mothers' groups

  • children with cancer

  • organisations

  • communities

Group work helps us see our similarities as much as it helps us learn to honour and protect our diverse individuality.
